I got into my sewing room on Thursday and had big cleaning energy! I'm really itching to sew charm squares together, but my plan is to piece pretty much exactly to a layout of the bomber pattern pieces (extremely minimal waste) which I haven't printed, so I'm going to exercise restraint and not do that.
The project that was on my table is the purple velour dress that I started back in.... October? I'm going to a birthday party on Saturday evening and it's very much a sweatshirt and jeans kind of party but I would love to wear this and feel a little fancy.
At the time I started working I'd done:
- Cut all major pieces - bodice (foldover dolman), and skirt front and back
- Gathered skirt back
- Sewed skirt back to bodice with elastic channel
- Inserted and fastened elastic to back
First I did the neckline, before it was all put together and was less bulky. I did a 2" topstitched facing by setting a large enough piece over the neck slit, stitching around it, then cutting a hole in the center, flipping it through, and topstitching. This fabric doesn't fray so I simply trimmed away the excess.
Bofur helped.
Next I attached the front skirt in the same manner as I'd done the back. First I gathered the skirt piece to match the bodice length, then stitched them together a bit offset to allow extra fabric on the bodice piece to fold up and create the elastic channel.
Then I attached the pockets and did up the side seams. Finally I created cuffs (rectangles folded over) and zigzagged them to the ends of the sleeves. And it's done!
My selfie setup in here is Not Good but maybe I'll have Waifu grab a photo later. And it's almost time to leave for the party!
